CASE STUDY: UNITED NATIONS GLOBAL COMPACT

The Challenge: The Secretary General of the United Nations issued a challenge to the global business community to create a new social compact between businesses and those who are not experiencing the benefits of globalization. The vision was to create incentives and initiatives for global businesses to work toward respecting human rights, labor standards and environmental protection.

The Process: Sarkady worked with the Secretariat and the Executive Head of the Global Compact to establish an Advisory Council. The Council is comprised of the CEOs and leaders of global corporations including Royal Dutch Shell, Goldman Sachs, Infosys, Deutsche Bank, Anglo American Mining and many others.

Mining and many others. The Council also has members from Amnesty International, Oxfam, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and two of the larger labor unions in the world – The International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers Unions and the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions.

The Result: The Sarkady Process enabled the development of agendas and processes that worked to bring together diverse stakeholders into a common culture of collaboration – ensuring the success of the mission. The Advisory Council is now functioning as a guidance mechanism, generating policies and practices focused on re-directing the global economy.
